Fighting for your rights as a Missouri father

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in fathers’ rights on Friday, July 8, 2016. When parents go their separate ways, it is safe to say they still want what is best for their children. While many children in the state of Missouri are raised in the home of the primary caregiver, it does not mean the other parent has no rights. Unfortunately, many fathers believe they are not treated fairly in child custody decisions. Sometimes this is not the case, but all too often it is entirely true. The good news is that courts in Missouri and elsewhere

Do you want a jury handling your child custody determination?

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in child custody on Friday, July 1, 2016. For most families in Columbia who have to undergo the divorce process, minimizing the strife and contentiousness of the proceeding is an important goal. If you have children, unless one of the parents is found “unfit,” you will have to maintain some type of relationship with your former spouse. You will likely have some form of joint custody arrangement, sharing legal and physical custody with your former spouse and that will be easier if you part on civil terms. After all, you may have to

Use your parenting plan to change your focus

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in family law on Thursday, June 23, 2016. The irony of divorce is that while your marriage can be ended, if you have children, your relationship with your child’s other parent may continue for many years. They are a convenient source of financing for emergency expenses and there will be emergency expenses as the process goes along. The reason you need to carefully review your cards before your divorce is due to the nature of the financial liability they pose. Credit cards are typically issued in three varieties. Some are likely solely in your name, meaning only you are authorized to use the card and that

Bill mandating shared parenting awaits action by Missouri’s Nixon

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in child custody on Friday, June 10, 2016. The Missouri legislature passed a bill that would make shared parenting the default presumption in all Missouri divorce cases involving children. The bill is now on Governor Nixon’s desk. He has 45 days from when it was passed to either sign it or veto it. If he signs the bill and it becomes law, child custody determinations would proceed from the assumption that parents should receive approximately even amounts of time with their children. This is generally a good idea, as it allows children

To state the obvious

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in divorce on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Divorce is a court proceeding. This means that on occasion, you may have to appear in court. And even when you are not appearing in court, you have to understand that once you begin a divorce, your conduct and behavior is going to be under a microscope. Most individuals are neither used to this level of scrutiny nor are the comfortable with this type of examination. If you have ever been pulled over for speeding or any other traffic infraction, you know how uncomfortable you
